Keep it simple - Keep it sophisticated

Posted on April 22 2019

Is it time you changed up your style or do you just feel like adding a bit of sophistication to your everyday outfits? Maybe you are applying for a new job or looking for a fresh change.

It can be daunting steering away from your favorites, but it is totally worth venturing into the fashion unknown every now and again. We're here to walk you through the ins and outs of styling yourself in a new sophisticated, chic and classic style.

Here are 5 tips to get you started today;

#1 Wear items that are made of classic fabrics

We often talk about cut or color when we are looking at changing or adding to our wardrobe.  But did you know that what your clothes are made of, is just as important when buying the latest must have items.

Choosing timeless materials such as cotton, wool, linen and silk will mean that it will stand the test of time.

The Penny Linen Sleeved Collar Shirt Jacket offers a unique ability to double as a buttoned-up shirt or as a lightweight jacket. Featuring stylish stitching across the front of the piece, it's an easy, flowing, linen garment, that can be worn in so many ways. Pair with Ann G Linen's flared pants, dress up with a scarf or some statement jewelry to complete the look.

To ensure that you keep these fabrics looking their best for longer its essential that you follow the washing instructions, or you might end up with a top, half the size, literally.

#2 If in doubt, wear solid neutrals

If trying something new like bold patterns and prints aren’t your thing, don’t stress because solid colors can still leave you looking sophisticated and classic.

The best part is solids are always plentiful in stores so you will always be able to find something no matter the time of year. Typical neutrals are white/beige/cream, navy blue, black, and grey but don’t think you have to dress in head to toe black and or white. Go monochromatic (different shade of the same color) which will allow you to change it up but still remain sophisticated and sleek. Or add a striking accessory like a handbag, necklace or earrings to a solid neutral outfit.

#3 Fit is Key

Sophisticated, classic clothing is known for it's tailored and form fit showing off your figure. Keep your skirt just above your knees to keep your look lady like. Don’t be hesitant in taking your favorite pair of pants or jacket to the tailor, it is worth the money and hassle to perfect the fit. After all you want your clothes to work for you and get you looking like a million bucks.  If you are going for a slightly more relaxed look for a weekday night out, or a day out with the girls, try mixing in unstructured pieces for a more relaxed and approachable vibe.

#4    Style your hair

So we have your colors, fabrics, fit and accessories sorted so let’s move on to your hair! I know that most girls dread the thought of spending hours in front of the mirror, but did you know you can achieve a lot with simple tips. There’s nothing as sophisticate as a bun, or a sleek ponytail when trying to step it up and keep it classy.  Find a style that’s easy and works for you and you're most likely to keep doing it that way.

#5    Keep a pretty manicure

Have you looked at your hands lately? We use them every day and they are on show 24/7 so why not make them as pretty as you can. There’s nothing that says sophistication like a French manicure of a soft pink gel.

So remember sophistication doesn’t mean that you have to be boring or without personality, using these tips you can incorporate your personal style while looking classy and classic at the same time.
